Everyone knows that MPlayer is a properly good, very powerful, and quite impressive media player. What you may not know is that ExMplayer (Extended MPlayer) is a very nice interface for the aforementioned media player. The ExMplayer GUI front-end makes it very easy to access all the functionality MPlayer has to offer.

The installation file is 24.2MB in size. Download this file, run it, and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will help you install ExMplayer on your Windows-powered machine. A few clicks later you will be done – you’ll be able to start using ExMplayer.

The main part of the interface presents the media file you loaded into the application. Above it there’s a traditional File Menu that allows you to easily access the application’s functions. Down at the bottom you will see the playback controls, the volume slider, the equalizer button, and the load playlists button.

Place the mouse cursor anywhere on the playback progress bar and the application will present a frame from that particular position. This function, which is called Seekview, allows you to easily seek through a video.

Some movies may contain scenes that are unsuited for a young audience. Keeping that in mind, ExMplayer comes with a Family Friendly Mode. You can use this mode to cut out any scenes that you think to be inappropriate. If the movie contains a violent scene, for example, and you want to watch the movie with your kids without scaring them, then you can use this mode to cut the scene out of the movie.

As mentioned above, MPlayer is a powerful media player and ExMplayer is based on said media player. So, all the wonderful functionality you get from MPlayer is available with ExMplayer.

The powerful MPlayer functionality, the good looking interface, and the very useful Family Friendly Mode make ExMplayer a must have tool.

Pros

Extensive language support is provided. Installing ExMplayer takes little time and effort. The application puts a very nice interface on top of MPlayer’s powerful functionality. There’s a handy Family Friendly Mode and a useful Seekview function. ExMplayer is free.

Cons

None that I could think of.
